The national capital of India saw massive traffic jams in many areas on Monday due to the restrictions for the Republic Day celebration’s rehearsals. Major roads in and around Delhi, including on the DND flyover, the Ghazipur border, and the Delhi-Gurgaon highway, were affected from the morning rush hours till around 2 p.m. Busy stretches including ITO, Sardar Patel Marg, Kashmere Gate, and Chankyapuri were also choked. The Delhi Traffic Police had issued an advisory on the arrangements and restrictions for the smooth conduct of Monday’s full-dress rehearsal for the Republic Day parade. Many office goers had come prepared for traffic diversions, but alternative routes also witnessed slow traffic.
Delhi police also advised people to avail public transportation as they use the Metro and Buses. They also advised that “Park your vehicles only at designated lots and avoid roadside parking. In case any unusual/unidentified object or person is noticed in suspicious circumstances, information should be given to the police,” the advisory read.
